My Orchids Are Alive!
We seem to get orchids gifted to us a lot throughout the year and eventually they lose their blooms. I’ve tried to learn the best care for them and this is a part of my new routine. Fill a deep bowl with fresh water and add a scoop of this. Dip the root basket in the water for three to five seconds. Pull it out and let it drip. Put it back in the pot you keep it in. Mine are reblooming months later!

The price is better than Lowes but still expensive. I like the Miracle-Gro product line for all of my plants. I have found that I dilute product by 50% and use a little more often. I don't have a set schedule because Orchards don't like a lot of water. Most of my Orchards have air roots and I wait until they turn silver and spray this product every other watering / spray. I also rotate with banana peel water that I filter before watering. I would but again.

Can't go wrong with these. One, two or three sticks in your pot of orchids, depending on the size. Stick them down to where the tops are level with the top of the soil so you can monitor when they need replacing. Load up the pot with ice cubes once a week in more humid environments. Twice a week in arid or dry climates and when it gets more than an hour of direct sunlight every day. Avoid tap water and there is some evidence that using a mineral additive process like the high alkaline sticks sold on Amazon at the link below. Great for your health and the health of your plants.

The Orchid Mix was awesome, you couldn't ask for better. The spikes were awful and nearly killed my orchids. I have been praised for being able to keep Orchids in Maine with our 36 below 0 weather. I have always done well with Orchids, but one of two nearly died after using the spikes. The spikes I have no idea how they are made or what is in them, but beware. My recommendation is to simply use the Orchid Mix after 4 months to do a complete change of Mix or do a partial change of mix every two months. The mix feeds the plants as well. They did mine. That is how I used to do it and that is how I am now. Another tip with orchids is to not get the leaves wet, just the roots that are green. It is ok to have roots exposed, but make sure they are green after doing a rinse and set to drain once a week or week and a half. With hot extrme temps, you may need to do it more frequently, maybe even twice a week. I have no idea because our climate isn't like that EVER! So it may be an experimental thing. Just don't get the leaves wet and make sure the roots are green, green and plump if possible. I recommend the mix, but not the spikes. I think the spikes burn the roots. They are just too strong.
