First and foremost I'll preface the review by saying that this isn't AAA NZ moss. You are not paying for AAA NZ moss, you are paying for a cost effective and fantastic substitute. I have nothing but positive things to say about it. Since my purchase I've rehoused a few hundred isopod colonies and it really does the trick.
No odors. No weird coloring. Fantastic moisture absorption as you'd expect.
You will find bale twine and stems and sticks occasionally. I read the reviews complaining about it so the first thing I did was break down a 2.2 lb brick and weighed all the "junk" and it was like 4.2 grams total weight and tbh most of it was perfectly useful for my application. I can't imagine why anyone would have an issue with what I found, so far half way through brick two and I've found about the same amount I'd say, so it's also a consistent product which creates a long term customer out of me.
Bottom line is: if you aren't potting something for display, this is probably the best sphag you'll find for a real sweet price.

Maintenance Skills
- Absorb well and wring out excess water before use.
- Watering should be carried out when the water moss is not completely dry. Once it is dry, it is difficult to absorb water again.
- When replacing the substrate, if the moss is intertwined with the roots, do not pull it hard, so as not to break the roots, soak it in water and shake it to wash off the old moss.

Lots of sticks and black "stuff" mixed in with the moss. I wasn't aware that it would be compressed into a brick, made portioning off the amount I needed difficult. Once wet, this moss smells horrible, reminds me of dead fish. I am unimpressed with the quality of this brand. Not getting again.
